Ergonomic Services

These days it seems like everyone works in front of a computer, especially here in the heart of Silicon Valley. What most people don't realize, however, is the profound effects that such activities can have on one's vision. Silicon Valley Eye Physicians is both aware and concerned about these growing problems, which is why we have several programs and suggestions to address this issue, including:

  • Laser screenings and exams/on-site or in our office
  • VDT's and ergonomics consultations
  • On-site eye safety education seminars and consultations
  • On-site LASIK and Cosmetic Services education seminars

We are are also pleased to offer corporate discounts for LASIK procedures to participating companies. If you would like more information, please contact us at (408) 739-6200 or email us at info@eyelink.com.

Suggestions

Visual discomfort at a workstation occurs when the visual demands of the task exceed the visual abilities of the individual. The problem can be resolved by treating the visual condition and/or by making the visual task less demanding. A thorough eye examination is necessary to determine if there are any visual problems. The eye examination must include analysis of the functioning of the eyes at near and indeterminate working distances. It is also important that the computer user provide the examining doctor with information about the screen viewing distance (from eyes to screen and the location of the screen in the field of view).

Listed below are suggestions for improving the comfort of the computer workstation and environment. Most of these suggestions are for the improvement of visual comfort, but some are related to posture or other forms of comfort.

  • Lighting
  • Screen Reflections
  • Computer Monitor Characteristics
  • Flicker Problems
  • Furniture and Arrangement
  • Ergonomic Services

Yesterday's blue collar workers have become today's office workers. The production of most businesses today relies upon employees who work before a computer in the office. Workers in these jobs are subject to discomfort and health problems because of the rigid and repetitive nature of their work. The most frequent problems are visual or eye related, followed by musculoskeletal problems. These problems can largely be solved and prevented with improved work station and work environment design.

The derived benefits from solving and preventing these problems are:

1. Increases productivity.
2. Happier employees and improved employee morale.
3. Decreased workman's compensation expenses.

Components of the program we have here at Silicon Valley Eye Physicians include:

  • Initial Consultation
  • Environmental Analysis
  • Environmental Report
  • Presentation to Employees (optional)
  • Individual Employee Analysis/Screening (optional)
  • Vision Care Services (optional)
  • Follow-up Services
